According to health officials, Israeli gunfire at a US-backed humanitarian aid site in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 25 Palestinians.
The casualties occurred as people approached the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) site, near Gaza City, and were attended to by medical officials at Shifa and al Quds hospitals. Dozens more were injured in the incident.
This tragic event follows a previous incident where 17 people were killed near another GHF site in Rafah, southern Gaza. Additionally, six people were killed in a similar incident in Rafah on Wednesday, and ten more lost their lives in Israeli strikes in Khan Younis, also in southern Gaza.
The Israeli military has stated that warning shots were fired towards individuals who were perceived as a threat to troops in the area of Netzarim, despite warnings of it being an active combat zone. The IDF is currently reviewing the details of the reported injuries.
Since the GHF began operations two weeks ago after a three-month blockade, a total of 163 people have been killed and over 1,000 wounded while trying to reach the aid sites operated by the foundation, as reported by the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.
In other news, the US ambassador to Israel has indicated that an independent Palestinian state may no longer be a foreign policy goal for the Trump administration.
A statement made by Mike Huckabee to Bloomberg News prompted the White House to clarify that he was speaking for himself. When asked about the US goal of a Palestinian state, Huckabee expressed doubts.
